sick but still smiling and playing!

Sunday, January 25, 2009

The other morning Luke had just finished eating and was asleep on my lap. Loki came over and was sniffing his had and then started to lick it. She proceeded to clean his head pretty well, and woke him up, but it was cute. He loves the cats so he was pretty excited to be woken up by Loki. On Saturday we went to Nana's to see Aunty Rae and Lizzie who were up from RI. Luke LOVED watching Lizzie and she seemed to like him too :)

Luke had a fun day playing and he did LOTS of tummy time.

And he cuddled with Aunty Rae for a bit too :)

Today we went to Grandma and Grandpa's for a visit. Rick borrowed the truck to get some stuff at home depot. We had a nice visit and Luke had fun in his walker. He refused to take a nap ALL day, so he was pretty tired by the time we left.

Feeding himself

Tonight I decided to let Luke feed himself dinner ... Here is how it went.

We started with a blob of his food on his tray. He proceeded to mush it all around on his tray.

He got a few bites into his mouth and a lot all over his face

He got it all over his face, in his hair and up his nose. But, he was having a great time :)

After this, we got him right into the bathtub. The tub was full of peas and sweet potatoes when we were done!

Sun to Wed

Sunday - Rick dropped Luke off at Grandma and Grandpa's (in a snowstorm). When he got home we started painting the living room. The "paint match" was less than a perfect match, and was actually a different color. It made for more work than we had planned on, but it came out nice. I went to get Luke in the evening, and he was tired from his busy day with his grandparents. He had so much fun.

Monday - We got up early for swimming. First we had to drop my car off at the dealership to get some minor things looked at. Then we were off to swim at the Y! Luke was tired during his lesson but he still had a lot of fun and each week seems to be able to do more and more. He was doing great kicking and was able to pull himself out of the pool a lot more this week too. After swimming we got him dressed in his outfit that Isolde, Roland and kids sent him for Christmas. He looked so cute!
Tuesday - The boys had a busy day together on Tuesday and we pretty tired by the time they got home.
Wednesday - When I got home from work just after 1, just was hungry even after eating 2 lunches already! So I fed him again and he fell asleep for a bit. I made him some green beans for this week while he napped. When he got up he was ready to play!

He went to bed pretty early tonight as he was really tired. I think he might be in a growth spurt as there has been a lot of eating and sleeping going on in the past few days!

mmmm apples

Happy 7 month Birthday!!!

Today Luke is 7 months old!

We celebrated by doing some exercises before breakfast. Luke hasn't made much progress on the crawling project, still can't get his arms to cooperate.

After he worked up an appetite, it was time for a big birthday breakfast of apples. yumm.

After he ate, we played for a bit in the high chair

Then we got dressed and played on the floor with some toys.

We left to do some errand in the late morning. A trip to Walmsrt was pretty uneventful as they had nothing that we had gone for. owell. We picked up a copy of this week's People Magazine so we could see Matt and Maddie's article (p. 108). After we left there, we went to Babies R us (diapers on sale!) and got a few things. They have the paci's that Luke likes.
We headed to the mall next and did an exchange that we had been procrastinating on. Then we went into Old Navy and they were having a big sale. I got Luke 2 pairs of pants, 2 sweaters and 8 pairs of socks for $19! After cruising the mall for a bit, it was time to head home.
Luke had been playing with his monkey (from Erica in Hong Kong) for our whole trip. When we got to Best Buy to leave, I zipped up his jacket and bundle me and I noticed the monkey was gone. crap. We love that monkey. Looked in our immediate surroundings, no monkey. Back into the mall, all the way back to the last place I remembered him having it, its not on the floor. We said a little prayer to St. Anthony and headed back. I looked at all of the carts in the middle of the mall to see if someone picked it up and placed it there. No luck. As we were almost back at Best Buy, who was sitting on a bench all alone - Monkey! Yay!!

i want more food!

Weekend

Friday:
Rick brought Luke down to my work and he got to visit with the girls. They hadn't seen him in a couple of months because Rick has not been too busy at work and hasn't needed to drop him with me. Everyone was happy to see him!
I brought Luke to a wake for a former patient who I treated when I was pregnant. I introduced us to the family and they knew who I was and they knew Luke's age. They were happy that I had brought Luke with me and I was really glad I went. I wasn't expecting the family to know who I was....

When we got home we played for a bit and worked up an appetite for dinner. On Saturday morning, we got up and got ready to go get Nana. We were at their house by 10:30 and on our way to go to Babies R us! We picked up a bunch of stuff on sale and got Luke some really cute boots to go with his hat :) (thanks Nana!)

Nana, Luke and I went to eat after BRU and had a nice lunch together. Luke drew lots of attention (as usual) and was a good boy. After lunch, we went to a couple more stores and then headed back to Nana and Papa's. Luke showed them how he is doing with crawling

and then we all headed into the dining room to have some coffee and cookies. Luke had his first taste of finger food and at first sort of liked it

but then seemed to really not like it haha

he was excited to be eating by himself however, and it was fun to see.

When we got home he had green beans (mixed with butternut squash) for the first time. He liked them! I am hoping this helps reduce the orange tint that he has developed too :)

first taste of green beans. yummy

Nathan gives Luke a kiss

Little Santa

Here we are at the bar for Jennie's birthday. Lukes first trip to the bar!

sick mama

Well, I am sick for the first time in a LONG time. I managed to get up an get into work for a bit today. Luckily with the snow and it being my short day, I was out before 11. The rest of the day entailed snoozing on the couch. It's hard not to snuggle with Luke, but I don't want to get him sick. So far, he seems to still feel fine.
Despite feeling sick, life goes on. Luke crawled tonight a little. He made it about 2 squares on the carpet in the living room. Its hard to get excited feeling so crappy, but it really was pretty neat to see him figure it out. He did have a little help from his Winnie the Pooh crawling buddy. He is teaching him the ropes :) Rick missed it and Luke was not cooperating when he got back, but I bet he will see it soon enough!

New Years to now

Well, we have been REALLY busy in the past couple of weeks so we haven't really found time to post other than from the cell phones. Between Christmas and New Years, Rick pretty much finished the basement (except the ceiling) and we were able to enjoy it at the New Years Eve Party!

New Years Eve: Luke went to bed right when the first guests were arriving. He slept through most of the party until either he or Sebastien woke up and woke the other one up :) Sebastien went right back to sleep, but Luke was up. Daryl rocked him for a bit ... but Luke was ready to party! We brought him down to enjoy some of the New years festivities. We put him in our room for the actual ball drop hoping he would fall asleep, but no such luck. Finally at about 130 he fell asleep on me on the couch. We hung out like this until almost 3 and then headed up to bed. By this time most everyone had found a place to sleep for the night. 730 AM, like an alarm clock Luke was up. staying up half the night does not equal sleeping in :) He was VERY excited to see everyone as they woke up. He likes having overnight guests! We all hung out and Luke entertained us for a bit. Everyone pretty much left by 1030 or 11.

We got Luke dressed and got dressed ourselves and headed out to Aunty Sandy's house, where Grammy was staying for the week. Luke had a nice visit with his Great Grammy and Aunty Sandy and had fun playing with Gus the kitty.

We left there mid afternoon and headed home to finish cleaning up. We all rested for a bit and then left to go to my friend from high school - Cheryl's house. Jess was home for the holidays with her hubby, so Luke got to meet lots of new people! Cheryl and Nick have a very nice home and Rick was jealous of the big driveway and garage (envision lots of campers if we owned it :) ). We didnt stay too late because i had to work friday (bad boss!) so I wanted to get home to get some sleep.

Saturday:
On Saturday morning, we swung back by Aunty Sandy's house to give grammy some pictures that we forgot on Thursday. Aunty Sandy gave us a present that she forgot, from Aunty linda and Aunty Jane! When we got to nana's house we opened it (luke handled the paper very well!) and it is a handmade Raggedy Ann and Andy book! A favorite of mine as a kid! He loved the book and immediately taste tested it.

Swim lessons!

Luke started swim lessons today. He LOVED it. The second I brought him in the 90 degree pool, he had a smile on his face! We swam around and splashed. We sang songs and Luke even put his face under a couple times. He wasn't scared at all and never cried.

After swim lessons, we went to his 6 month check up... He is now
17 pounds 8 ounces (38%ile)
27.16 inches (64%ile)
43.5 cm head circumference (I forget but between 30-40%)

So he is getting longer and leaner by the month! I guess we can give him larger meals of solids too, since he has been getting about 2 ounces of fruit or veggie and some cereal mixed in, and she told us today that he can get 4-5 ounces. So he will be excited about that!!

He cried with his shots, but only for a minute, when I picked him up, he started laughing and then the MD and the nurse starrted clapping and he thought that was funny. He goes next week to get the rest of his 6 month shots and then doesnt go back until the end of March I think!
