Acadia 2009

We left for vacation last Friday night. We headed up to the lake to pack up some last minute supplies and the kayaks. It also put us almost an hour closer to Bar Harbor. We got up bright and early on Saturday (thanks to Luke) and we on the road by 8. We only had to stop 2x - once for bathroom breaks, diaper change and gas, and another stop at the post office so rick could mail some stuff for work. Luke was GREAT in the car and made it the 3 hours no problem to Bangor where we stopped for lunch. We ate at the Seadog Brewing company, and it was a nice break from the car. After lunch, it was back in the car for the final hour of the trip.

When we arrived at the campground, Rick went in to check in. It was taking him a looong time so I started to get a little nervous. When he came out, he tld me we never paid our deposit and we didn't have a reservation. Great! They had a campsite for us for 1 night but then nothing after that. Maybe they would get a cancellation tonight, so they told us to check back in the

We headed to our temporary home and to get set up. Chris was already at his site and mostly set up. Dee and John were also in Acadia, so after they finished sailing they headed over for dinner and a sunset paddle. After we ate, we headed down to the water, which was low tide..... sooooo

everyone got a little muddy :) Those are Dee's feet. Rick towed my boat over to the dock so Luke and I didn't have to go through the mud.

Here is Luke and I kayaking in Somes Sound. Luke likes to wave

It was a pretty night out

Here is Dee

The next morning we had to pack everything up to move. We went up to the campground office and there were no cancellations so we had to go to a different campground on the island.

This was our site for the first night

Oh no! we are homeless and have to move!

After getting set up at our new campground (Hadley's point campground) we went for a hike up Flying mountain.

Luke loved riding in the carrier and hiking with Dada

Here he is at the top of the mountain.

Rick, Luke in the carrier and Chris at the top before we ate lunch

On the way back down you go by this cove that was really pretty

Next we went into town to get some ice cream.

Luke had a lot of fun chasing the birds.

On Monday we got up and did a quick hike up Bar island which over looks Bar Harbor. It was foggy that morning, so there was no view. When we got back down the fog had lifted. We briefly debated going back but decided to save it for another day

On Monday afternoon our other friend Dan arrived and on tuesday the 3 guys went kayaking for a little bit. Luke and I played on the beach near our campround.

On Wednesday, the guys went kayaking again out to some islands off the coast. Luke isn';t ready for open ocean kayaking, so we went to the playground. Luke had a lot of fun!

He loved going down the slide headfirst!

After working up an appetite on the playground, we went to the park in downtown overlooking the water for a picnic.

After we picked up Rick at the boat launch, we headed back and we saw some huge sail boats in the sound.

This one is The Alexandria... see how small the kayakers look?

On Wednesday morning we went on a hike up Norumbega Mountain and it was really nice out. Here we are at the top

It was really hot out and Luke was tired on the way down, i think Rick was too.

Here we are on the ocean

thursday morning we went to sunrise.

The sunrise was beautiful!

Here are the Islands that the boys kayaked to earlier in the week

Luke lounging in his stroller in town

We went mini golfing and Luke loved it! He and Rick came in last place but he didn't care!

Here is our trailer that we thought was pretty big. It looks tiny compared to all the huge motor homes at our new campground

Luke took advantage of any car time to catch some zzz's

Here is sunset on Thursday night. Luke played at the beach and got into the water with his clothes on

Here are the guys getting everything ready for dinner and a fire on the beach!

The sun is setting!

Luke had a lot of fun playing

And he got REALLY dirty!

Here is the beautiful sunset!

The next day we drove up Cadillac mountain during the day and ate lunch up there. Luke looks like he in on a cliff but really he is not, I promise!

Past 2 weeks or so

Well I am home sick with the flu so I figured it would be a good time to update the blog as I have been neglecting it lately. The weekend of July 18th we had our last wedding ofthe summer to attend. We took a picture in the same spot we had about 6 years ago at another wedding, but I can't find that old picture right now. We look different thats for sure :) We headed up to the camp after the wedding and the next day Michelle, Ken and the kids came up. We went to the beach and had a nice day. There was an incident with a fox that we thought was rabid, but it turned out not to be :) As we sat down to eat dinner John got up to the lake and after eating the 3 boys went tubing and had a blast!

The next weekend Auntie Dee came up to the lake and we all had a lot of fun.
Luke enjoyed relaxing with his Auntie

We relaxed by the fire for a bit too and Luke and Auntie Dee were silly

We went out on the jet skiis (a lot) and Rick and Dee went tubing. Auntie Dee is a little crazy on the jet skiis :)
On Saturday night we went for a sunset kayak and itwas Luke's first time. He was a little fussy at first because I forgot his paci. Once we got it, he fell right to sleep. We went out again on Sunday morning for another kayak and explored the lake a little. It was fun.

We didn't know it but Luke was getting sick and Monday he woke up feeling pretty crappy. He was really fussy so we headed out from the lake earlier than normal.
When we got home his fever kept going up so we ended up going to the urgent care at our pediatricians office at 8pm. We didn't get home til 10 with medicine for Luke's ear infection.

By the next weekend he was back to his old self again, just in time for Auntie Drea and Erik to come to the lake.

He was a little more fussy than normal because we stopped his bottles on Thursday. He wasn't happy about that :)

We had a great weekend and we all went jet skiing, everyone else went tubing and we went to the beach. We had a great dinner on Saturday night and roasted marshmellows by the fire.

We left the lake early on Sunday because we were going sailing! Rick got to help hoist one of the sails. It was a beer tasting sail our of Gloucester. Rick got to sample the Cape Ann's brewery beers (and my share too)

This picture is a little blurry as Rick took it AFTER the cruise and after a few beers :) The ocean was REALLY choppy when we were out but it was fun.
